FIRE RISK REDUCTION COMMUNITY LIST

The City of Shasta Lake is excited to announce that the State of California Board of Forestry has designated it as a Fire Risk Reduction Community (FRRC). This recognition means that Shasta Lake is working with the California Board of Forestry and Fire Protection to implement targeted fire prevention and risk reduction strategies. As part of an FRRC, the City is committed to reducing wildfire risk through proactive actions guided by Board of Forestry standards. In 2024, only 11 cities across California received this designation, which is valid for two years. The Shasta Lake Fire Protection District has also been awarded the FRRC designation.
With insurance companies tightening their coverage areas, being recognized as an FRRC may benefit residents, as some insurers may offer better coverage, lower premiums, or potential discounts for properties in communities that actively work to reduce fire risk. We encourage you to check with your insurance provider about available wildfire discounts.
The FRRC designation also opens up additional opportunities for state and federal grants aimed at supporting fire prevention efforts. These grants will help fund critical fuel reduction activities, including brush clearing, creating defensible space, establishing firebreaks, and community education programs.

FIREWISE USA COMMUNITY
The national Firewise USA® recognition program helps neighbors in a community work together to organize, plan, and take steps to make their homes and neighborhoods more fire-resistant. Communities that meet certain voluntary requirements each year and maintain “In Good Standing” status can officially call themselves a Firewise® Site.
The Shasta County Fire Safe Council provides residents with resources and support to organize and learn about personal preparedness, alerts and warning, local evacuation plans, and strategies to make their community more fire-resistant.
